BIM Show Live 2017; Anthony to give seminar on Strategy

In February next year, our Director Anthony Harte will be presenting as part of BIM Show Live 2017.

This follows a call for papers in November focusing on four main Streams. With various angles in which to submit an article, Anthony chose to submit a paper within the Strategy stream following on from previous seminars in early 2016.

“By definition a strategy is a plan of action designed to achieve a long-term or overall aim. And BIM delivery is most certainly a long-term aim.  With the introduction of BIM by the then BIM Task Group in 2011 with the aim for BIM to be used in all centrally procured construction projects by 2016, can we say we have achieved this?”

“BIM Show Live looks at the state of the nation, where we are now, what we have achieved in the past five years and what indeed is our aim for the future as our industry continues to digitise.”

BIM Show Live was first launched back in 2011 and after taking a year out in 2016 it is set to return next year promising to come back with a BIM-bang according to BIMcrunch

Anthony comments; “I remember sitting in some of the early BIM Conferences circa 2011 bumping shoulders with the early adopters of this BIM stuff. For me in 2009, BIM was not about a government mandate as this had not yet been developed but more about finding efficiencies within our business to allow us to compete with the big boys. (and girls, sorry #WomenInBIM)”

Over the past 10 years James & Ward has delivered over 1 million sqft of retail space alone in a BIM environment, with the company’s first collaborative BIM projects landing on site in 2009 (Asda Gorseinon) combining the Architectural models with Structural, M&E and sprinklers. Back then James & Ward explain that they exchanged data rich models bi-weekly via CD until they set up their own ftp.

Anthony goes on to add that; “It’s a great achievement to be presenting on day two of the event, and be among some of the UK’s finest BIM practices from great companies such as; Grimshaw, BDP, David Miller, Metz & BIM Technologies. It shows how far we’ve come and how far the industry has come in the past years”.

BIM Show Live 2017 will be held in the Crown Plaza hotel in Newcastle, situated in the city’s newly developed Stephenson’s Quarter in February 2017.
